Lucinda Riley’s awesome Seven Sisters series continues with book 4, The Pearl Sister. I love these novels combining an historical narrative with the contemporary story of one of seven adopted sisters tracing their birth families and ancestry. Riley has hit on a truly intriguing and gripping idea for a series.

Each adopted sister was named after one of the stars in the Seven Sisters constellation. When their adoptive father passes away they are left coordinates to a geographic location to help them find their origins. In this fourth book, CeCe (Celaeno) is also given two further clues – the name of a female pioneer and a black and white photograph.

A bit anxious about unravelling her past, she makes her way to the country identified in her coordinates - Australia. Heading for the gorgeous town of Broome (there’s a clue in the title), CeCe slowly finds out the story behind who she is and where she came from. The historical tale is one of adventure, pioneering, expectations, strength, resilience, and racism. And the contemporary story is about finding where you belong, who you are, and being happy with both.

The series is a delight to read. I have been eagerly awaiting this novel, even more so since knowing it was going to be set in Australia, and I was not disappointed. I look forward to the next book, due out in late 2018.

If you’re wanting to start this series look out for Book 1, The Seven Sisters.
